On the 39th Edition of the Ryder Cup that is being held this week in Chicago, Medinah Country Club, players will pay their tribute by wearing his most famous pose. He was most influential in turning this competition into one of the main events in Golf, thus becoming one of the much awaited events in television, being second only behind the Olympic Games and the World Football Championship.

The silhouette recreates his clenched-fist to celebrate his win at the Open Championship in 1984 which stands as the logo of the group of companies he founded which will be emblazoned on both sides of the European players’ bags at the Ryder Cup.

José María Olazábal, his team mate on memorable occasions and a close friend of Seve, will perform as this year’s team captain, has declared:

“It will be the first time Seve will not be among us, physically, though he will be present in spirit. I thought it would be a fitting tribute to a great champion but most of all to a great friend who will guide our steps.

Seve was instrumental to the Ryder Cup since he started in the team in 1979. He was always present at the Ryder Cup even in 2010 when he spoke to the players over the telephone.
He will be a wonderful example to the coming generations of golfers. I keep many fond memories of the times we were together specially at the Ryder Cup. The best tribute we can pay to Seve is playing in his honor and thus his memory will be alongside us all the week.

Seve always said that that his image with his clenched-fist up in the air, shouting : “I scored it, I scored it” (in Spanish: “La metí, la metí”) when he won at the birthplace of golf in St. Andrews was the happiest moment in his life”.

Seve Ballesteros passed away on May 7th 2011 due to a brain tumour. His golf career was outstanding. He won 93 tournaments around the world, 50 of those belonged to the European Tour, winning five Majors: 3-times Open Championship winner and twice at the Augusta Masters. Besides his victories at 5 World Match Play Championships he achieved two World Cup (World Nations Championship). He soon became a landmark for European golf.
