The Desaf\u00edo Fundaci\u00f3n Seve Ballesteros was held to pay tribute and remember Seve on the date of his birth. Javier, Seve’s eldest son, attended the prize giving ceremony with Gonzaga Escauriaza, president of the Spanish Golf Federation; Juan Jos\u00e9 Villanueva, president of Panam\u00e1 Golf Group and Roberto Eduardo Arango, ambassador of the Republic of Panam\u00e1.<\/p>\n

Many of the players who have come together at the National Golf Centre had the privilege of\u00a0playing with Seve and others, despite not having met him personally, started playing golf “because of Seve”. The champion’s personality has been remembered and praised by everyone on this special date: “Seve was pure passion, imagination, sensitivity, competitiveness, magic feeling. He changed the rules of the game and taught us to love golf. All of us started playing golf trying to imitate him because he did something different and appealing. He transmitted his passion and engaged us into playing golf”. This was unanimously declared by all the players when the round ended.<\/div>\n

Enrique Ponce: “I played with Seve many times in Madrid, Bilbao, Sancti Petri, Pedre\u00f1a. It was a privilege being with him: seeing him with a club in his hands, hitting those daring shots was something that only he knew how to do. I shall never forget it. I learned a lot from him. I was drawn by his simplicity, humanity, courage and fighting spirit”.<\/p>\n

\u00c1ngel Acha was the winner in Scratch category with 40 points, displaying a fantastic game which earned him the title of Spanish College Champion; Jose Ram\u00f3n Chico and Juan Carlos Velayos have been the best by handicap, in the first and second category. Lola Fern\u00e1ndez Ochoa was the ladies winner and Agustin Mill\u00e1n was the senior winner.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

After thanking “all the courses in Spain and Panam\u00e1 that have supported the Desaf\u00edo and all those who have joined in to remember my father”, Javier Ballesteros gave a bronze sculpture “My hands”, to the Panama Golf Group corporation, sponsor of the Desaf\u00edo Fundaci\u00f3n Seve Ballesteros, represented by its president Juan Jos\u00e9 Villanueva and CEOs Arturo Sainz and Jaime Carrizo who were thrilled to receive the sculptures of Seve”s hands from their idol”s son. Gonzaga Escauriaza, president of the Spanish Golf Federation who thanked everyone involved, noting that “more than the great number of trophies, the most important thing about Severiano was the passion he transmitted to every spectator who was attracted to golf because of him. He made us live the tournaments with the same intensity as he did. This made him unique”. “My hands”, by the artist Juan Soler are made out of bronze and are a limited edition of 555.<\/p>\n

The Seve Ballesteros Foundation staged the third edition of the Desaf\u00edo, a number of charity golf events that are held all over Spain and in five courses in\u00a0Panama to raise funds towards brain cancer research.
